Keep me from distraction from whimsy and woe.
Let me be fixed always on you,
To trust when you lead where I wish not to go
And trust when you lead where I do.
Author of my being,
Singer of the song,
Watcher ever seeing,
I to you belong.
Better is your singing,
Higher are your joys,
Yet my ears are ringing
With a bitter noise.
Clear away obstruction.
Ev’ry hindrance, take.
Clamors of destruction,
Help my soul to shake.
Teach my ears to listen;
Tune my heart to yours.
Take this vessel, christen
On these earthly shores.

Truth is a subject often in dispute
When two interpretations disagree.
Two brothers – neither list’ning – turn to shoot
The other dead rather than bend the knee.
Assuming that there is no middle ground,
No chance that God is wiser than their minds,
They trip and trap and trigger all around
The body harsh divisions of all kinds.
And as the fights erupt, the mission fades
And is forgotten ‘neath the cries of war.
The rescue ships no longer act as aids;
They leave the dying stranded on the shore.
True doctrine does deserve our strong defense.
Contentions of convictions? Recompense.
In college, I hung out with a pretty tame crew. We were all heavily involved in the Baptist Collegiate Ministry. We knew the party scene existed, but none of us had much experience in that realm. Alcohol was a foreign concept, with the only shots we ever took being administered by nurses during doctor’s appointments. Some of us, according to a spiritual gifts survey, even had the spiritual gift of celibacy. A wild night for us consisted of road trips to the city for Buffalo Wild Wings and a movie. We were on the verge of “Christian cliche,” and we loved it.
